We visit one of the most emblematic reductions in America, the one featuring the best restoration conditions as compared with other reductions in the Order. The aim of this mission was to evangelize the Guarani natives.
We arrive at the village of San Ignacio, where the ruins are located, and we enter the mission that gives testimony of the labor done by the Jesuits, where the native culture once mingled with the European heritage without any kind of violence.
Today, only vestiges remain of a settlement where science and art were part of the union between the white man and the guarani people.
A local guide will tell us the history of the mission and talk about the various ups and downs it had to go through until the Jesuit Order was expelled by King Charles III of Spain.
As we move about the venue, we start to admire various buildings made with red sandstone blocks.
The layout of the city is one of the most notorious works carried out by the Jesuits. The Plaza De Armas –turned into a central yard nowadays–, the Cabildo (ancient Town Hall), the church and the houses of the religious men and the natives, the hospital, the college, the workshops and the stores are part of the buildings that have given shape to this settlement.
We learn that the buildings in the mission feature a Baroque conception. We could also see the elaborate designs on the stones carved with silhouettes of angels, doves and local plants, on which the guarani stereotypes may be observed.
From the end of the Inferior Circuit, in the dock in front of San Martin Island, the nautical adventure begins and ends. In powerful boats we will burst in the canyon below the Rio Iguazu along the island and take you at the foot of the Three Musketeers jump, with looks at the Brazilian and argentine waterfalls and the Devil`s Throat. Finally, the view of the argentine side of the falls, at the foot of St. Martin, the largest waterfall that a boat may face.
Difficulty: 100 meters of stairs.
Walking restricted for pregnant women and the disabled.
Recommendations: Protect all personal items with plastic bags that will be provided by the company, which will get wet during the approach to the jumps
The Great Adventure is unique, and combines the whole essence of the Iguazu National Park in one ride: the jungle and the waterfalls.
It is offered daily every full hour, and the departures are from our Head Office or The Visitors Center.
It starts by entering the jungle from the “Sendero Yacaratia” trail with special transportation that allows a panoramic view of the environment along with experienced guides that give a lot of explanations as well as the legend of this spectacular place.
After an 8 km 4x4 truck ride, we arrive at the Puerto Macuco Base where the second part of this ride begins.
With motor-boats, we take visitors 6 km through the Canyon of the Iguazu River, until the falls, from these total, 2 km are river rapids.
IMPORTANT: We recommend taking a second pair or shoes, informal clothes in order to change because in the Great Adventure excursion everyone will get wet.
This excursion will take you to a unique spot, located 7 km from the city of Puerto Iguazu and 15 km from the falls. You will arrive via light-truck and movi-truck and once you are there, in the middle of the jungle, you will participate in various eco-adventure activities such as canopy walks, rappelling from the trees and the falls, and hiking.
Merge in the Argentina Falls tour, the participants will be able to select this extended program that includes a thrilling boat ride in the Iguazú River, to get close as possible to the Falls.
