LAKE TITICACA |
| |
|
| |
The highest navigable lake in the world! |
| |
|
| |
Come to see an unique hydrologic system, its water stays between the two branches of the Andes Range, and Lake Titicaca big mass size has a thermoregulatory effect in the surrounding area, avoiding two of the main problems of the highlands in agriculture: freezing and drought. Key natural reason for the development of the local cultures in agriculture, with outstanding techniques in use until present times, like the terraces, water raised fields and artificial lagoons.
Our programs cover most of the areas, like cultural, adventure and ecotourism, each showing the beauty and richness of Lake Titicaca, and the cultural legacy with its pre-Columbian, colonial and cultural treasures.
Explore the Island of the Sun, with the support of Ecolodge "La Estancia". It is important to highlight that the operations are done in a sustainable way and that we work together with the local communities, a basic aspect to guarantee the sustainability of the product as well as the area.

An amazing spot located in the southern part of the Island of the Sun in LAKE TITICACA, near the Aymara native community of "La Estancia", from where the name was taken.
It was built preserving the Andean architecture and it combines with the modern comfort, always respecting the harmony of the surrounding nature and habitat. The cabins were constructed with adobe brick and thatch roofs, and were set between pre-Inca terraces, also using solar energy.
The community work is an important goal and slowly more people are involved in the project, for example using their boats for the lake transportation, use of a local restaurant, native bands playing music, cross cultural experiences in mystic ceremonies and fishing, and locals working in the ecolodge.
Please come to enjoy this special treasure of the nature and the rich culture of its people.

La Paz or Puno (Peru) to Copacabana
- Departure from La Paz, crossing the highlands towards north and parallel to the Royal Andes Range. Reaching the lake with great landscapes, until Copacabana (3 hours), a main Catholic pilgrimage center with the famous Dark Virgin. It was an important area in pre-Colombian times and entrance to this sacred land.
- Coming from Puno (Peru), through the western part of the big lake, crossing the towns of Chucuito, its churches and ruins, then Juli, the main center of the Jesuit missions in the highlands with a great job in stone done in their churches. Pomata is next with an impressive church, then Yunguyo (Peru) to enter Bolivia in Kasani, to finally reach Copacabana (3 hours).
From Copacabana take a boat to the southern part of Sun Island (1 hour).

HIKE TO THE ECOLODGE |
| |
|
| |
There are three different ports to land and then hike to Ecolodge “La Estancia”:
- Pilkokaina ruins. (Our best suggestion) After visiting this Inca palace, hike uphill with good views of the land (terraces), lake. Cross the Indian community of Yumani until you reach Ecolodge “La Estancia” (1 hour).
- Yumani bay. You are in the Garden of the Incas, hike steep the Inca steps and reach the water spring of the “Eternal Youth”. Continue uphill and cross part of the Indian community of Yumani, then smooth to reach Ecolodge “La Estancia” (1 hour).
- Huacani bay. This is the shortest way, steep to reach Ecolodge “La Estancia”, going up from the bay (½ hour) and crossing nice old Inca terraces.
