Condor Travel tour packages to Bolivia offer a variety of options for the visitor to this traditional country in the heart of the South American Andes. Lake Titicaca is only its best-known attraction: the cities of La Paz, Sucre and Potosí each offer its own side of traditional Bolivia. And the countryside surrounding these destinations is nothing less than awe-inspiring.
Lake Titicaca, high in the Andean altiplano at 12,507 feet, is at the center of Andean history and folklore. Lake Titicaca was at the center of the Tiahuanaco culture, where Andean culture is believed to have originated, as well as the birthplace of the mythical Manco Capac, the founder of the Inca Empire.
Tradition remains abundant at Lake Titicaca. The Uros Indians still live on floating reed islands just as their ancestors did a millennium ago. Other traditional cultures can be visited on the islands of Lake Titicaca, including the Quechua weavers of Taquile and the Yatiri healers of Amantani Island.
The colonial cities of Sucre and Potosí have both been declared World Heritage Centers by UNESCO. Each gives the visitor a glimpse of the wealth of the colonial period, when the Spanish mined the rich Silver Mountain of Potosí. Abundant baroque art and architecture in both cities makes time seem to have stood still.
La Paz, only 45 miles from Lake Titicaca, is a curious mix of the traditional and the modern that will not fail to captivate while also offering first-class accommodations during the visitor’s stay in Bolivia. |
