BOLIVIA
One of the largest cities of the world in the XVII Century, due to the large silver production of its famous Cerro Rico. It’s now the highest city of Bolivia at 4,070 m with great colonial legacy in churches and architecture, as well as paintings.
Visit of the famous Mint House, traditional colonial streets and the artisan market. Continue to San Francisco and San Lorenzo churches that has one of the greatest examples of stone carvings of the baroque-Indian style.
This excursion allows the visitors to experience an unforgettable trip thousands of meters underground, to see the living and working conditions of the Bolivian miners (protective clothing and helmets are provided). The silver mine is in the famous Cerro Rico, once the richest of the world.
Day 1 (B,L)
Trip crossing branches of the Andes Range with great landscapes, old mines and Indian villages to the town of Uyuni (5 hours). Overnight in hotel.
Day 2 (B)
Trip to Colchani, to see locals producing salt, enter the great white saltflat crossing to “Isla Incahuasi” (2 hours), a special habitat of volcanic rock and giant cactus. Then north to see the mommies of Coquesa in the foothills of the Tunupa volcano. Return to Uyuni (2 hours), day use of a hotel to take the night train to Oruro (6-7 hours).
