The Cariri region characterizes by its unique rocky landscapes located in the middle of a low sized forest, also known as “Caatinga’. The Lajedo do Pai Mateus, is located at that region, and it is elevation of 1 square kilometer on a ‘horst’ shape (plateau), and with approximately 100 huge round-shaped blocks, composing one of the most original landscapes of the planet. The ‘Lajedo de Pai Mateus’ detaches also by its own strong mystic base on the fossils legacy that testifies the Paleolithic’s human occupancy of the area and as well, the use of this spot as burial and ceremonial center of the early native people, at less in the last 12.000 years. This energy doesn’t pass slightly to the visitors that are much more available to feel the sights of areas with such ancestral history. The sunset at this place is an experience simply unique, where the deepest of the universe invades the visitors, leading us to a magical atmosphere of the early ages of the mankind.
Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1
Natal
Arrival at the Natal’s Internacional Airport over noon. Transfer to the selected seafront hotel, and offer of a welcome drink. Lunch at the hotel. Then, the participants will be lead in the afternoon on a city tour through the coastal avenues of the city. Return to Hotel. By night the participants will be conducted to get dinner on one of the most famous typical restaurants on the city, with local food specialties, with a menu of over than forty dishes at disposal.
Return to the hotel.
Day 2
Natal – Ingá – Cariri
Departure from Natal over 7:00 a.m. heading to Ingá at the neighbour state of Paraiba, to visit the biggest and beautiful archeological assemblage of Brazil. This archeological relic is composed of a monolith’s strong piece with some stunning petrogliphic inscriptions, carved in by expertise hands some thousand years ago. Time for having a brief snack and then departure to a traditional region called Cariri. At Sitio do Bravo, time for visiting the particular formations included in granite hills. The prehistoric men and some huge mammals such as mammoths and ‘sabre tooth’ tigers have occupied this area and its possible to find mysterious legacies of its activity and sample of cave paintings and fossilized bones. Following the itinerary, the participants will be lead to the ‘Pai Mateus’ Ranch to relax on the pool and enjoy the wooden burn’s heated sauna. The dinner will be served at Cariri’s typical style. Before retiring to the rooms the participants could marvel themselves with the magnificent view of the night’s sky of the Brazilian ‘Sertão’.

Day 3
Cariri
After the breakfast, brief walk to the “Saca de Lã” site . This particular rocky formation reminds a ‘pressed wool’ pile. With an unknown origin, based on human action or on the natural conditions environment, we will try to understand the mysterious nature of these hills. After that the tour heads to Cabaceiras – a typical village of the Brazilian Sertão. Walking tour through the streets where the participants will know the truly hospitality of its inhabitants. It is also a great opportunity to observe and purchase the local handicraft made in goat’s leather. From here, the participants will return to the ranch to have lunch cooked under an ancient native’s ritual – done in a special pan plunged directly in the earth on volcanic hydro thermal spots. After a brief rest, the itinerary follows to a stunning rocky area, where more than 70 handled pebbles and the heap of bones of a native sorcerer of the XVIII Century called Pai Mateus were found. Due to this sorcerer grave, the area is known by Lajedo de Pai Mateus (Pai Mateus gravestone). This mystical landscape provides different perceptions and emotions to the visitors, and particularly at the sunset. Return to the ranch for dinner. After the dinner, the participants could participate in a traditional dance called “forró” that detaches by its enormous sensuality. – only available with at least 10 participants.

Day 4
Cariri – Areia - Natal
After the breakfast, departure to Areia, a little colonial style village with houses dated from the XIX and XX Centuries, and with a fine conservation state. The itinerary includes a visit to a fairness theater erected in European’s cedar wood, and an old sugar cane mill of the slavery times. Lunch at restaurant in Areias and immediately departure heading to Natal. On the way the tour stops at another little village called Passa e Fica, located on the Rio Grande do Norte and Paraiba state borders. On the road the participants can enjoy the superb sight of the Pedra da Boca ( Mouth’s Stone) – a granite hill with prehistoric occupation and that remembers by its shape , a large human mouth. Arrival at Natal over 7.00pm.

Day 5
Natal
After breakfast, transfer to the Natal’s International Airport to pick the departure flight. End of program.
