Chiloe and the Dalcahue Canal

Day 01

We find ourselves in the city of Castro where we will have lunch at a portside restaurant.  We will visit the handcrafts market.   In the afternoon we will take you from Castro to the Kayak center near the town of Dalcahue.  Here we will instruct you and practice kayaking on the tame waters of the Dalcahue canal.  After dinner we can take a hot bath in the rustic open air baths (heated with wood).

Day 02

Early departure on our kayaks through the Dalcahue canal observing on route the different species of aquatic birds including the black neck swans and the occasional flamenco.  In Dalcahue we will visit the local cultural center.  We will then continue crossing the canal until we reach Quinchao Island where we will visit the delightful church of San Javier and its cemetery.  Country style lunch.  During the rest of the day we will continue visiting picturesque towns along the canal, arriving in the evening back to the Hotel.  Transfer to Castro later on.

Dalcahue to Mechuque Island


Day  1

We will meet in the city of Castro where we will have lunch at a portside restaurant.  We will have time to visit the handcrafts market.  In the afternoon we will take you from Castro to the Kayak center near the town of Dalcahue.  Here we will instruct you and practice kayaking on the tame waters of the Dalcahue canal.  After dinner we can take a hot bath in the rustic open air baths heated with wood.

Day  2

This morning we will paddle to Dalcahue, San Javier on the island of Quinchao and depending on the tide maybe go on to Curaco de Velez.  We will have lunch before embarking on a ferry to the island of Mechuque.  Once there we will set ourselves up in our accommodations and then enjoy a nice walk along the traditional town and its streets.  We will walk up a small hill in order to view the other islands of the Chauques group.

Day  3

Early wake up for a full day of kayaking through the islands of Añihué, Taucolón, and Voigue.  In the afternoon we will find a nice spot for a picnic lunch.  In the evening our hosts at Mechuque will offer us a succulent “curanto” or clambake, the most traditional dish of Chiloe. 

Overnight at accommodation.


Day  04

In the morning we will return by ferry to Dalcahue and will continue to Port Montt where we will catch a flight to our next destination.

Andean Fjords, Pumalin Park


Day  1

Transfer from Port Montt to Hornopirén, covering the first part of the Austral Highway and crossing the heart of the Reloncaví.  Here we will board our guide boat where all the equipment and guides will be in order to continue on our way to the island of los Ciervos.  Later we will continue on to the island of Llancahué to begin with the instruction and practice in our kayaks. 

We will set up camp on this island.


Day  2

Today we will begin our kayak adventure.  We will near the entrance of the Quintupeu fjord where the German war ship, the Dresden, concealed itself during the First World War.  From here, paddling at an easy stride we will discover some of the most beautiful hidden corners of wild beauty in such lush vegetation.  Great quantity of water falls from great heights into the ocean here and we will be surprised by the magnificence of these mountains.  At the end of the fjord we will be greeted by our guide boat in order to share our vivid experiences.

Day  3

Short boat ride toward the Cahuelmó fjord, we will make a brief stop and prepare the kayaks to paddle along this very beautiful fjord until we reach the mouth of a river, which we will be able to go up if the tide is with us.  Finally we will take a relaxing bath in some natural thermal springs of wild beauty on the ocean shores.

Day  4

Today our voyage will take us to the Porcelana Thermals.  Along the boat ride we will stop at the community of Huinay to carry out on a peaceful and stunning walk upriver through this glacier valley, surrounded by its majestic mountains until we reach some refreshing, crystalline natural pools.  After a nice swim we will continue on our nautical voyage to cross the Cornau fjord and arrive at the bay of Porcela (or porcelain).  Here we will set up camp in this gorgeous site.  Later we can enjoy some more thermal Springs.

Day  5

Today we will board our kayaks and continue into the Cornau fjord until we reach Leptepu, we will paddle under spectacular views such as forests that hang into the ocean.  We will see and if the tide allows may be able to go into a lagoon with abundant wild life.  In the afternoon we will return to Porcelana where we will be able to take another long and pleasant thermal spring bath.

Day  6

Early in the morning we will once again board our guide boat to navigate by the Cornau fjord towards Hornopirén, where we will meet our transport to make our way to Port Montt with enough time to connect for a flight to our next destination.
