CHILE
Departure from the hotel in Iquique, for a tour around the city seeing the beaches of Peninsula de Cavancha, Brava, and Primeras Piedras. On the way it is possible to see buildings from the nitrate days (1880- 1920), located on Balmaceda and Baquedano avenues, where the Astoreca Palace, the Regional Museum, the Municipal Theatre and the Spanish Centre are located. Visit to Iquique’s Cathedral that has inside a ceiling painted blue with stars to create the illusion of a starry night. Finally, a visit to the former Railway Station, from where the trains used to come out loaded with nitrate. Then visit to El Morro and the Zona Franca (tax free zone) of Iquique, the biggest one in Latin America. Return to the hotel.
Pica is a town famous for its pleasant climate, citrus groves, and spectacular natural hot-springs. The springs are found in rock pools naturally eroded into high cliffs. There will be time to relax and swim here. Pica is also home to a winery built by Catholic missionaries - the oldest bodega of wine in Chile. The church of Pica (1887) is also very unique. It is built from blocks of natural borax. In the evening drive back to Iquique and overnight.
