Santiago is Chile’s capital and its largest city, and is the jumping-off point for visiting any other region of the country. In addition, many of the principal tourist attractions in Chile are found in Santiago and its surrounding areas.

In the city proper, one can enjoy luxury accommodations, fine dining, and a wide selection of museums and entertainment. The splendid civic areas of the capital, highlighted by the 18th century neo-classical “La Moneda” Palace, are not to be missed.

World famous wineries, among the major attractions in Chile, are only a short drive away from Santiago. The lovely Maipo River Canyon is home to the Concha y Toro Vineyards, the largest in Chile, while the oldest vineyard in Chile, Cousiño Macul, is only a short distance away.

Also among the principal attractions in Chile are its Andean ski resorts - La Parva, El Colorado, Valle Nevado, and the Hotel Portillo. Close to Santiago, the beautiful Andes mountains also offer delightful hiking and horse back riding in during the summer months. Rafting on the Maipo River is another favorite for those seeking adventure.

To the west lie the delightful coastal cities of Valparaiso, Chile’s principal port and a UNESCO Heritage Site for its spectacular hillsides homes, and Viña del Mar, Chile’s most important beach resort. Nearby Isla Negra is a summer resort where the house of Chile’s poet laureate, Pablo Neruda, has been converted to a delightful museum and has become one of the major tourist attractions in Chile.

Free day. Sugestions: Depending on the season, for summer, a sunny day at `Reñaca Beach´ one of the fashionable sports in viña del Mar while for winter an optional excursion to the northern beaches of Zapallar and Cachagua.
