Ecuador is a colorful universe of varied, pure magic...The Republic of Ecuador occupies a surface of 256.370 square kilometers with 200 miles of territorial sea; it is located at nor east side of South America, bordered by the Pacific Ocean at the occidental side, with Colombia at the north and Peru at the south.
Ecuador is crossed by the Andes range from north to south, dividing the country in three different diverse regions:
- The Pacific Coast
- The Andean Region
- The Amazon Basin
Directly in front of continental Ecuador at the Pacific Ocean we find the famous Galapagos Islands, a natural unique worldwide destination.
Ecuador’s population is approximately 13.832.885 inhabitants, the population is diverse compose of persons of mixed race that represents the 77,42% of the population, the whites and immigrants are represented by a 10,45%; the 6,83% is represented by various indigenous groups that together form 26 different nationalities, a 2,73% is represented by mulattos and finally a 2,23% is represented by the Afro Ecuadorian community.
Approximately a 54% of the population lives in urban zones while the rest lives on rural areas.
The official language is Spanish, but the quichua, shuar and other indigenous languages are officially recognized too.
The catholic religion is predominant with approximately a 68%, either way, the country guarantee the free election and diffusion of other religions.
The official currency is the US Dollar, although is important to know that Ecuador have issue its own coins of 5, 10, 25, 50 cents and 1 dollar, the same are only valid inside the country.
The agriculture and the petroleum exploitation are the principal economic support followed by the textile industry as well as food, beverages, tobacco, fertilizers and the cement production.
Ecuador occupies the first place in banana production and exportation, followed by the flower industry and is the eight World cacao producers. Is important too the production of shrimp, sugar cane, rice, cotton, corn, palm, cedar wood, Walnut wood and others.
In reference to the industrial sector, it is mainly for the internal market, either wise there is a small exportation of liquors, canned food, textiles, Jewels and furniture.
Today, the economy is rising in a constantly way making of Ecuador one of the most growing countries of South America.
The history of Ecuador dates back to more than 10.000 years ago, when the most ancient recorded inhabitants established along the Pacific coastline, leaving a legacy of rich culture, gold and platinum plated ornaments, fine pottery and amazing farming, fishing, climatologically and astronomical knowledge. Later, the Quitu-Cara Empire ruled over much of Ecuador’s present day territory and became a major rival for the expanding Inca Empire. The Incas took over for a few decades, leaving some important evidence of their culture, just before the Spanish conquerors came in and ruled during four centuries. During the Colony, much of today’s greatly admired architecture and religious art, especially found in Quito and Cuenca developed what was recognized as a world-class school of art, which led UNESCO in the 20th century to declare both cities as World Cultural Heritage Sites.
Today Ecuador is a thriving country, making its way through the 21st century with modern cities, high tech new airports and sea ports, commerce, businesses, roads, transportation means, top quality hotel infrastructure in the main cities and glorious country inns in and near the major tourist centers; great and varied gastronomy, handicrafts and folklore, all complemented by hospitable people, ready to welcome the visitor with a big smile...
