A boat trip on Lake Titicaca to visit its islands. Taquile Island, three and a half hours from the city of Puno, is inhabited by its campesino community that continues to preserve its culture, traditions and archaeological remains. After a short lunch, we will return to the city of Puno, again crossing Lake Titicaca, making a brief stop at the floating Islands of Uros.
The Sillustani archeological complex is located 35 km from the city of Puno. It was the most important pre-Inca cemetery of the altiplano, consisting of funeral towers known as Chullpas that measure more than 12 meters high and 7.5 meters in diameter. In addition to its pre-Inca past, Sillustani is notable for the beauty of the landscape surrounding it, including the reflection of the waters of Lake Umayo.
South of the city of Puno lies the village of Chucuito, rich in archaeological remains such as the phallic temple or Ulloa Inca, the Shrine of Fertility. During the colonial era, Chucuito was home to the Royal Cashier, where the tax on mineral production was collected for the Spanish Crown
Lampa is also known as the Pink City for the hue of the clay that colors its houses. The town of Lampa has existed since before the Incas, and was an important center during the conquest and the colonial era. Here is the Colonial Temple of Santiago Apostle, constructed by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century, inside of which is one of the two replicas of the Pieta by Michelangelo.
Visit these unique islands built with blocks of reeds and cattail roots by the Uros people, considered the oldest inhabitants of the altiplano that still inhabit the area. Suspended in Lake Titicaca, the 22 Uros Islands are home to 2,000 people who are devoted mainly to hunting and fishing.
