The Inca Baths: Encounter of two civilizations

Located north-east of Trujillo at a distance of 863 km. (540 miles) from Lima, Cajamarca is best known as the site of the first meeting between Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro and Atahualpa, the last Inca Emperor, back in the XVI century. Cajamarca has an altitude of 2,750 meters (9,000 ft.) above sea level. This colonial city, once an Inca settlement, boasts fine churches and a countryside full of remains of pre-Inca and Inca monuments, including the Cumbemayo canal, carved in living rock, and the Ventanillas de Otuzco, an ancient cemetery.
