Chan Chan is one of the most important archaeological sites in Peru, located in the northern coastal desert. Declared by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site, Chan Chan is the largest and most important city of mud surviving from pre-Hispanic America. Its palaces were built by a succession of rulers of this capital of the Chimú government.
